William Parker is appointed acting mayor of Boston.

December 9, 1844

When no candidate receives sufficient votes in the election or five subsequent ballots, Parker, chairman of the Board of Aldermen, serves as acting from the end of Martin Brimmer’s term on January 6, 1845, until a new mayor takes office on February 27, 1845.* According to the city charter, the acting mayor “shall possess the powers of mayor only in matters not admitting of delay, but shall have no power to make permanent appointments.”
